Street food in Xiamen

饺子

Freshly made 饺子, dumplings are readily available in here... And it's just RMB6 for 20 饺子!! Isn't THAT cheap? Ordered the 韭菜 filling ones (as featured below) and it was such a soothing snack in winter...

肉夹膜

Freshly diced braised pork (with braised sauce) stuffed in chinese-style 'hamburger'. It's really juicy cos the braised pork was obviously cooked in sauce for many hours and the taste is so rich you can't find anything less enticing. Cost RMB5.

Po pia

My repeated favourite snack inXiamen! Found the old lady in the same old corner at Zhongshan Road. Filled with white radish, malt sugar, peanut bits, coriander leaves and finally topped with a tinge of chilli sauce. Sounds weird? No no... the chemistry of all the ingredients is just aaawwww......

胖子小吃

Remember this pic? Took it last Dec (2006) And yup... we went back for dinner-cum-supper!!!

地瓜粉

Doesn't look very appetizing but it's really nice! Translated to be pumpkin noodles, it's QQ to each bite!

And of course.. the rest of our orders which are served literally on a metal tray... hur hur. Topped with their own spicy sichuan-like sauce, am missing it...

烤玉米

Didn't manage to take a picture of the barbecued maize but look! I caught the food vendor cooking it in a run-down corridor right behind their make-shift store. haha! Cost RMB2 for a barbecued maize topped with sesame and spicy sauce.

韩国烧烤

Don't know why it's called Korean barbecue. I mean what's really the link to Korea anyway? But well.. They are apparently quite popular with the locals cos they are really plentiful on the streets... Featured in the picture : Sausage, squid and chicken bits topped with pepper, chilli and cinnamon powder.

RIYUEGU in Xiamen

YES... finally a new entry to my nearly-dead-food-blog. hur... Pictures from my xiamen and guangzhou trip!!

I've never really talked about this hotsprings resort in Xiamen during my last trip. It was a pleasant retreat from work, just like what you need for a holiday.

A relaxing place to soak in the winter, it has a larger number of flavored hotsprings (around 30 if i'm not wrong) including red wine, beer, rice wine, jasmine, lavender, milk bath and even coconut hotsprings! The place is self-sufficient in that you'll probably need to bring yourself in for the hotspring. Swim wear is provided for free if you come unprepared. The show area is well-equipped with towels, shampoo and shower cream. There's even an area where you can blow-dry your hair (especially in winter). Hair brush and even rubber bands are plenty.

Morning breakfast buffet was appetizing!

Thankfully the made-to-order fried egg is still available!

Bachmann Japanese Restaurant

Address: Plaza Singapura, 2nd Level

Woah.... it's my 2nd time here and i really love the food!!! The good thing about dining here is the small portion of its ala carte menu. In this way, you can always try more and NOT eat till you literally drop. :)

(Clockwise from the left) : Salmon Sashimi, Katsu Toji, Curry Rice, White Fish in Cream Sauce (my favourite!!!!)

White fish in cream sauce. This is a MUST try!!! We ordered 2 sets of this! The cream sauce is REALLY delicious!

Curry Rice with chicken

Katsu Toji

Dessert: Mango Kakigori served with red bean paste on top

I love the setting of the cutlery!!!

The unique design of the tea cup give a special flair to the dining experience.

3 sauces provided, namely 2 types of chilli sauce and ground ginger (middle).

Starter

Salad wrapped in a small cube, topped with black sesame seeds and salad dressing

Dim Sum

Fried carrot cake

This is the softest carrot cake i ever tried!!! If you thought carrot cake from Crystal Jade or Red Star was good enough... hur hur. You don't know what you are missing!!

Xiao Long Bao

Served with black vineger and ginger shreds

Scallop Siew Mai

This is also so soft!!! The white top is in fact, one single scallop!!!! hohoho... kudos!!!

Fish Maw dumpling

aahhhh.... This! I usually don't take fish maw because of its fishy taste BUT there isn't a single fishy taste!!! Made from fresh prawn paste, it's D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!

Har Kao aka Prawn Dumpling

Char Siew Su

Served with pork floss and sesame seeds sprinkled on top... The char siew chunks are sweet to the core!

Shark's Fin Dumpling

The size of the dumpling fits the WHOLE bowl actually. And the shark's fin is ONE whole slice!!!! WAHAHAHA.... Dumpling's filling includes sea cucumber chunks, fish maw chunks and crab meat (if my taste buds didn't fail me) :)

Dessert

Aloe Vera and lime jelly topped with lemongrass sherbet

Served on top of a pot of dry ice, you just can't resist!!!

Lemongrass sherbet is unique in its own way while the aloe vera chunks are fresh and juicy.

Toast

Venue: Takashimaya

Even though i've been to this place many times, i never seem to introduce the food here. That is, until now.

As the salad is pretty popular, it's always advisable to reach there before the lunch crowd.

Combi Salad - There's approximately 8 to 10 choices, ranging from chicken salad, pasta, wheat rice and tofu salad to choose from.

Combi salad - pasta and chicken salad

Chicken Salad - made from chicken chunks, lettuce and cheese sticks mixed in salad cream

Masala Chicken Wrap!!! ALL TIME FAVOURITES!!!

Made from a generous amount of chicken chunks, veggie and mango bits...
